BHUBANESWAR: The 2022 National Road Safety Short Film Festival received an overwhelming response with 230 entries from across the country. Filmmakers, amateur cinephiles and students submitted entries in the form of documentary, experimental, storytelling, fiction, non-fiction and animation.
There are entries in many languages other than Odia including Hindi, Telugu, Malayalam and English on various aspects of road safety.
Apart from the Odia language, there are many Santhali language entries as well as tribal belts in the state. The pre-selected films will be screened on June 18 and 19 in Rourkela. The festival will culminate in Puri where the films will be screened on June 24 and 25.
The winners will be selected by a jury composed of professionals and luminaries from the film industry and non-industry from different backgrounds.
The festival’s jury members include entrepreneur and philanthropist Dharitri Patnaik, actor and former chairman of Odisha Film Development Corporation Satyabrata Tripathy, national award-winning film producer Manish Mundra and national award-winning filmmaker Rajesh Touchriver.
A first of its kind festival held in the country aims to raise awareness of road safety issues and promote increased commitment to road safety in Odisha as well as across the country. The best film in the Odia and non-Odia categories will receive a cash prize of Rs 1 lakh, the first runner-up will receive Rs 80,000 and the second runner-up will receive Rs 60,000.
Best Director, Best Screenplay, Cinematography and Best Actor/Actress will receive Rs 25,000 each.
