There’s no doubt that actor Ben Affleck pleasantly surprised fans of the DC Universe after donning the black bat suit. After playing Bruce Wayne in Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice for the first time, he is reprising his role in Justice League, then again in the much darker version of Zack Snyder’s film. He has yet to star in his own solo Batman movie.
With Ben Affleck reprising his role as Batman, it’s certainly exciting to think about where the character will go. Although Ben Affleck’s career as Batman has been loved by fans around the world, he admitted that people weren’t exactly thrilled to see him take over from Christian Bale as Batman at first.

When the news of Ben Affleck becoming the next Batman was made public, fans of the franchise didn’t seem so happy. They thought Affleck didn’t have the physique to play The Caped Crusader. This concern mainly came after Christian Bale had already set the bar in the sky. Alongside the methodical connoisseur, Henry Cavill certainly didn’t help either, as he said the comparison was daunting.
“It was very intimidating. I thought if I was going to be as fit as this guy, I think I’d be in trouble.
When the Goodwill hunting the actor expressed his doubts about playing Batman, Zack Snyder assured him that he would play a plus”broke, fucked up Batman,” something that hadn’t been done before. Affleck joked that when Snyder described his vision for the broken character to him, he resonated with Bruce Wayne and decided to pursue the role, after all.
“He was like, ‘this guy, he’s older, and he’s really screwed up and he’s broken down, and he’s on the verge of moral bankruptcy‘. I thought I was clearly your man.
After three movies, a few cameos, and more added to the roster, it’s safe to say that Affleck has carved his way into the hearts of superhero fans. While it was hard to step into Christian Bale’s shoes, the actor certainly did a great job of bringing the character’s emotions to life.
Ben Affleck proves people wrong
After Affleck was questioned for his physique, he said he spent much of his time getting in shape for the role. He trained day and night with Magnus Lygdback to build a physique that people thought was the most accurate body type for Batman.
“I worked for almost a year before this movie started becoming superhero in my old age. It was a lot of protein and not a lot of carbs, but just eating about four to five times a day and lifting weights for a few hours a day.
The actor did a great job bringing Snyder’s more mature vision and 71% Rotten Tomatoes rating to life for Justice League are sufficient proof of this. The loss of his trusted sidekick Robin and his parents, along with other consternations, weighed heavily on the superhero. Affleck embodied the character’s feelings perfectly. Snyder’s idea of bringing a “paradigm shift” for Batman was actively understood and practiced by the actor.
