By Vince Sullivan (May 23, 2022, 3:48 p.m. EDT) — The Roman Catholic Diocese of Rochester proposed a $147 million settlement with its insurers Friday night to resolve coverage disputes for sexual abuse claims filed against the organization after nearly a year of intense mediation between the parties under the direction of a New York bankruptcy judge.
In a motion seeking approval of the settlement, the diocese said it began new mediation efforts last July after a $35 million settlement with a single insurer was thrown out of bankruptcy court with a warning to return to the negotiating table with an open mind.
