In line with its commitment to prioritize safety and well-being, foodpanda organized a road safety awareness session for its passengers, which was conducted by the Sindh Traffic Police. The session was led by DSP Saeed Arain, and was followed by a speech by DIG Traffic Police Mr. Ahmed Yar Chohan. The training provided to the delivery people aims to ensure that all riders strictly observe traffic rules, and drive with great responsibility and caution, for their own safety and for the safety of all drivers and even pedestrians walking along. roads or cross roads. at any time.
Speaking on the occasion, Muntaqa Peracha, Acting CEO of foodpanda Pakistan, said that delivery people can spend a lot of time on the roads and at all hours, so it is essential that they are properly trained in driving practices. sure. He went on to say that foodpanda believes road accidents are entirely preventable, and this session and others like it are being held because the company is aware of its responsibility in mentoring its delivery people.
According to a report released by Karachi Traffic Police (KTP) in 2021, the number of road accidents has increased significantly. The report indicates several reasons for the increase in the rate, including chaotic traffic, the large number of inexperienced drivers, especially teenagers, and heavy traffic on the roads during the day. The comparative report shows that the number of road traffic fatalities increased by 43% year-on-year, while the rate of serious injuries increased by 109%. Additionally, the report found that more motorcyclists were killed in crashes than people driving cars.
As such, the initiative taken by foodpanda earlier in Lahore and now in Karachi to provide safe driving training to its delivery people is the need of the hour, and something that other organizations need to follow as well.
At the end of the training, helmets were also distributed to the runners present.
