OTTUMWA, Iowa (KYOU) – A winter storm is rolling through the region, bringing moderate to heavy snow at times.
A winter storm warning continues for the entire region through Saturday morning. This means significant travel disruption is expected in the warning area, with snowy roads likely for the rest of the night at least into the first half of Saturday.
The snow will continue to intensify throughout the evening into the early hours of the night. Accumulation rates could at times reach or exceed one inch per hour, causing conditions to rapidly deteriorate throughout the region. Winds will also increase as the low pressure area passes nearby late tonight into tonight causing at least some blowing and drifting of otherwise wet snow.
Snowfall of 4 to 8 inches is expected in the region, with higher isolated totals possible. This snow will be wet and heavy, making it difficult to clean up later. Be careful not to overwork yourself when shoveling snow, especially if you have a pre-existing heart condition.
